How to achieve the perfect uniformity in your web design?

Web designing throughout time has undergone many changes and evolved gradually. Many design concepts arrived and went by without leaving a trace, but uniformity or symmetry is one aspect of web designing which has stood the test of time.

Simply put uniformity with reference to a web design means achieving a perfect balance and harmony between the elements of a web page. The elements of a webpage referred to here are Text, Images and videos etc.

Uniformity has a direct visual impact on the user who visits the site for the first time. A good uniformity ensures that the user keeps visiting the site again and again. Uniformity is one aspect of a web design which is capable of transforming an otherwise ordinary website into an extraordinary site. The complete UX of a site solely depends on uniformity or symmetry. A good uniformity enables a user to focus properly on the content for which he is visiting your site.

Let us look at the various types of uniformity of a website:

1. Rotational uniformity:

Rotational uniformity adds a touch of life to a flat design website.
Even a flat web design can be made interesting using rotational or radial uniformity. This type of uniformity is achieved by rotating an object around a centre point at uniform increments. The object even after being rotated should look similar in size as it was in its original place.

2. Reflective uniformity:

This kind of uniformity is achieved by creating a mirror image or of an object around the central axis to reproduce a reflection effect. It can also be referred to as bilateral uniformity. The reflective effect can be horizontal, vertical or even diagonal. This kind of uniformity type is ideal for focussing user attention on a particular element.

3. Translational or crystallographic uniformity:

In this type of uniformity an object can be moved either forward or backward while maintaining its orientation. This type of uniformity is used for websites where content blocks have similar width and height. Translational uniformity adds a sense of motion and speed in your web design.

4. Horizontal uniformity:

While drawing a straight line in the centre of an object from bottom to top, if both sides share the same outline then you have got yourself horizontal uniformity. Horizontal uniformity does not care about weather both the images are similar or different.

5. Colour uniformity:

Uniformity is not all about shapes alone, but colour also plays an important part in determining the looks of a web design. If uniformity of colour is not achieved, the site shall look unbalanced. A uniform webpage should achieve a perfect harmony between the objects and colours.

Conclusion

To sum it all up, it can be ascertained that uniformity is the sole aspect on which a good webpage exists. Website designs like the Flat web design and the Material web design will come and go, being replaced by new design concepts, but uniformity is something in a web design which shall remain till eternity.
